Stephen Miller

President

Stephen is a United States Marine Corps veteran who served honorably from 2005 to 2009, including a combat deployment to Iraq in 2008. During his time in the Corps, he served as a 3521 Diesel Mechanic and was stationed with 2nd Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.

Stephen moved to Grand Forks, North Dakota as a child because of his mother’s service in the United States Air Force and has called the community home ever since. He currently works as a Senior Software Engineer for Digital Twin Applications at the University of North Dakota. In this role, he leads a team of software engineers and students developing software in support of defense-related contracts, keeping him connected to the mission-driven work he valued during his time in the Marine Corps. Outside of work, Stephen enjoys playing hockey and spending time with his wife, Maggie, and their two children, Samantha and June.

One of the founding members of North Dakota Warriors Hockey, Stephen now leads the organization as its President. He first laced up his skates in 2021 and quickly developed a passion for the sport. For Stephen, Warrior Hockey is about giving veterans a place to rebuild the camaraderie, trust, and sense of team they often miss after leaving the military. The fast pace of hockey and the way it depends on every player doing their part make it a natural fit for veterans, because success on the ice is never an individual effort; it takes the whole team.

As President, Stephen is committed to growing North Dakota Warriors Hockey and expanding access for disabled veterans across the state. His goal is to build an organization where veterans can compete, challenge themselves, and rediscover the sense of purpose and belonging many once had in the military. For Stephen, the mission is about more than hockey; it is about giving veterans a team they can count on again.
